Celestron has taken the typical Chinese laboratory prepared slides, corrected many of the spelling errors in the listing that comes with the box and packed the wooden box in a nice printed cardboard box. The selection is more interesting than the three other ’100 slide’ collections that we have, but the quality of the slides is the same. Only about forty of the slides are duplicates of our other sets, and ten of those are different enough to merit keeping both prepared specimens. I like the wooden box, and Celestron’s slide labels are better than the other three sets because they have the slide numbers located at the very top of the label (some sets do not number the slides themselves).

I got this microscope to use as a tool for my home-schooled daughter. It is a great learning tool. I have not had any problems with it (as indicated by other reviewers for a different model.)
It is nice to be able to view slides with my daughter as she is studying them. The pictures the camera produces are wonderful.
The traditional features of the microscope are good – lighting, stage movement, filters, lens. Even my husband, who is a pathologist and looks through a microscope everyday of his life is impressed with this one!

This scope has been excellent. It came in secure packaging from Amazon, each eye piece and lens was well packed inside of it, and everything arrived promptly.

I had read the last reviewers post about difficult seeing things above 600x, but like the comments say underneath it, you have to use oil at 1500x. The lens piece actually says “OIL” on it so you don’t get confused.

The 5 pack of slides was fine with it, and I also picked up a 25 pack as well to go with it. They all look great at even 1500x magnification. I’ve only done minimal experimentation with making my own slides (cheek scrape, blood, etc) and it’s easy to do (You may need to get a few extra liquids to get the right contrast to your sample).

This scope is not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for when it comes to optics of any kind. The controls are really easy to use on it, it’s easy to fine tune, changing slides is easy, and there’s a nice hard stop so you never have to worry about sending your longest lens through a slide on accident
